Pokémon Meet-up Melbourne: Summary

On Saturday, July 6, Pokémon fans from Melbourne congregated at the Deakin Edge lecture hall in Federation Square to participate in a VGC competition, the second of several Pokémon Meet-ups held in major cities over the course of the next few weeks. The first Meet-up was held in Perth, which you can read about: here.

With a turnout of 25 Junior Division players and 107 Seniors and Masters (the division being combined for this event, and just called Seniors), the atmosphere was electric. Casual and competitive players cheered on trainers duking it out on the screen provided by Nintendo, with many nostalgic Pokémon tunes providing background music (M2M’s Don’t Say You Love being the obvious highlight).

Much to everyone’s surprise, all competitors were awarded tickets to PAX Australia; Nintendo Australia has gone out of their way to give as many players as possible a chance compete at the upcoming Australian VGC National Championships at PAX Australia!

Two competitors emerged victorious by the day’s end; Junior Division was a clean sweep for Nick Kan, and Seniors was no match for Sam Pandelis!
