Hey, my name is Brent, and I was the Senior/Junior Division winner of the Good Games Town Hall VGC Tournament in March.
Click the following links to quickly navigate to that section:
Salamence @ Choice Scarf
EVs 252 Special Attack/116 Special Defence/140 Speed
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
Your first response would be “Brent, why are you using Hydro Pump? Rock Slide is a lot better.” I agree, but the reason I have Hydro Pump is that I don’t have a Water Type Pokémon. I’m running Modest so Hydro Pump gets that boost, and I don’t really need Rock Slide with Garchomp and Manectric.
The reason I don’t run max speed is because I expect most Salamence to be Timid so why don’t I just run bulk and outspeed non-scarfed Pokémon.
140 Speed EVs with a Choice Scarf is enough to outspeed Timid Mega Manectric with 252 Speed EVs. I put the rest of my EVs in Special Defence because I run 2 Intimidate Pokémon.
Garchomp @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs 4 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed
- Dragon Claw
- Rock Slide
Faster than Charizard, learns Rock Slide, and did I mention that natural bulk and STAB Earthquake?
Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lighting Rod (Intimidate)
EVs 252 Special Attack/100 Special Defence/156 Speed
IVs 30 Def
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power (Ice)
I don’t expect many Manectric, so I just run enough speed to outspeed Greninja, again with the Intimidate Ability for the physical bulk. Have to thanks my man Matthew Burris for this Manectric.
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs 252 HP/204 Attack/52 Special Defence
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
Ferrothorn can take down teams alone, and Fairies. Also who doesn’t have a counter to Kangaskhan?
Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs 172 HP/252 Attack/84 Special Defense
- Brave Bird (all the things)
- Flare Blitz
Brave Bird, all the things. Tailwind is also good at some times.
Gardevoir @ Sitrus Berry
EVs 252 HP/4 Def/140 Special Attack/4 Special Defence/108 Speed
Moonblast over Dazzling Gleam to OHKO Dragons. Will-o-wisp is to give it more physical bulk plus residual damage and crippling physical attackers. The Speed and Special Attack is enough for certain roles.
108 Speed out speeds nearly all Rotom. 140 Special Attack OHKOs standard Dragon sets.
Overall my team works by chipping away while being as bulky as possible then near the end I can finish with big blows.
